Sr. High Program - #QRR-2 - A $539 Value for $465

This
third installment in our world history series will send you hurtling back
to the time of royals and revolutionaries. A time of vast change, you’ll be
there to witness the strong and forward leadership in England and France,
and watch events unfold that send both these countries into revolutionary
periods. You’ll be surprised by how many changes transpire in just a few centuries,
as you tour the world with explorers, step off into the unknown with colonists,
and marvel at the new gadgets and inventions that push technology forward
in the Industrial Revolution.
You’ll also take a hard look at the darker sides of these
movements, spending time pondering the plight of native peoples displaced
and decimated by the drive for empire. You’ll see revolutions take their toll
in human lives and languish in the despondence of factories and workhouses
created by the Industrial Revolution.
Along the way, you’ll meet the larger-than-life characters
of this age like Elizabeth I, Louis XIV, Peter the Great, Isaac Newton, George
Washington, Napoleon, and Queen Victoria.. And, you'll get to know fictional
characters that have become almost larger-than-life, thanks to the talented
authors who put them on paper!
Due in large part to the abstract nature of the concepts
covered, there are fewer activities in this program, and most of these occur
in our "Exhibit the World's Fair" or in the optional -- but very recommended
-- "Music, Art & Writing Focus." Explore the turbulent times of these four
hundred years!

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding this Program
Can you tell me why you haven't included middle grade students
in this program?
We
have not recommended this program for purchase for younger students primarily because of the topics covered in this
installment of world history. The concepts are very abstract. Rather than
exploring mummification in ancient studies, or castles in medieval times,
this period of history is marked by abstract movements such as the scientific
revolution, the rise of the absolute monarchy, separation of church and state,
colonization and empire, industrialization, and the Enlightenment. Most four-year
history cycles spend a lot of their time in this period visiting American
history, but we have deliberately chosen to keep American content low and
focus on European issues, as we have other thorough American study programs.
For parents who wish to do a third-year cycle of history with middle grade
students, you CAN use this program with younger learners, but we don’t feel
they would be as interested in this study as they would be in one of the studies
we’ve designed for fourth through sixth grade students. Instead, you might
consider using American Crossing I for middle-grade students as it covers
virtually the same time period. These students will then have the opportunity
to return to this period and focus on European affairs when they cycle back
through in their high school years, and will be able to fully appreciate the
topics and the times.
I’ve already got a few of the items in the package. Can I
still get the package price and leave them out?
We love to offer our package prices to our parents to help them purchase a
great program with a great discount. We do, however, have to sell all the
items in the package in order to honor the discount. Usually the discount
outweighs the value of the resources you might already have. If not, you can
choose items individually to build your program, but remember the purchase
of a themed program package ensures you also get free shipping, another discount
you’ll want to take into account as you look at your total purchase. You may
want to consider selling used the items you already own, reselling the new
items, giving away the duplicates as gifts, or donating them to a homeschool
resource center that serves other homeschool families.
