Our Resale Policy

Why does WinterPromise limit items that can be resold?

WinterPromise is committed to bringing the very best products to our parents. We provide a curriculum that brings together a variety of learning tools, including many resources we publish ourselves that can be used in almost unlimited ways to teach, reinforce and review. These include cards, games and game boards, learning activities, review ideas, website links, activity directions, and research and discovery opportunities you'll find nowhere else. This gives us a unique product that has made compiling a good resale policy difficult.

Let's start with a question parents frequently ask:
"Why do you request that we not resell our materials? Isn't WP just like any other book that I purchase and own, and can then resell?"

This is a good question. In one sense, yes, of course you own what you purchase from WinterPromise, and that ultimately gives you the technical right to resell it. However, when you purchase a WinterPromise exclusive, we have respectfully requested that you abide by our resale policy. Your purchase from us assumes that you will respect our request to not resell your materials.

In another sense, WinterPromise is not like any other book that you purchase. When you buy a book from your local bookseller, there is an understanding that you will receive no ongoing support or help from that bookseller in regards to using or implementing the book. If you buy a book on how to build a tree house -- you are on your own! But with WinterPromise, we offer unlimited support to our families. We are always here to serve you, answer your questions, and help you problem solve when you need a little help along the way.

With that in mind, understand that we price our materials with the intent of providing this ongoing support to a single family. The price of the materials also pays the authors and illustrators who work with us, many of whom are also homeschool families. We pay them according to the numbers of each title that is sold. When a resource is resold, these families do not receive payment for their work.

So, when materials are resold, those families receive the benefit of ongoing support, despite the fact that they did not purchase it from WinterPromise. It also keeps good authors and illustrators and their families from receiving payment for their work.

We believe strongly in the biblical principle that "the laborer is worthy of his wages." (Luke 10:7, NASB). Whatever the financial need of the family seeking materials, we do not believe that the need outweighs this principle. We have financial help and other alternatives for those who truly feel they cannot afford WP without help, and we feel this honors this biblical principle, while still offering families alternatives that allow us to pay our authors and illustrators.

As an additional note, we'd also like you to consider that the advent of discount book houses on the internet has already done damage to the viability of some small homeschool companies, and this is likely only to become worse as these giant companies wield buying advantages on such a large scale. We'd like you to remember that we are trying to look at what the future appears to be like for small book companies, and remember that, should our guides and other resources flood the used book market, it is likely that folks will buy their books from the big discount houses, and we will no longer be here to produce programs and offer our parents support. We simply don't want that to happen. We want to be here for you -- and for your children!

Things to Consider About Resale & Our Guides:

One of the difficulties of finalizing our resale policy has been the unique nature of our program. From our comprehensive guides to the original nature of our “Make-Your-Own” series, we’ve invested a lot of effort to keep your homeschooling journey “open and go.” With this in mind, we’d like to share additional reasons why we as a company do not allow the resale of many WP exclusives.

#1- The Nature of Our Guides - One thing we are most proud of here at WP is the time, money, sweat and tears we put into each of our Instructor Guides. Unlike most other companies, our IG is not simply a schedule, but the steering wheel by which you will steer your whole WP journey. It is truly the engine that makes your car go! We schedule out your history, adventure reading, activities, science, and Bible. We offer you DVD and website suggestions and keep them updated as much as possible. We offer your student their own weekly schedule for them to keep and carry around. We offer you notebooking pages and information, tips, and lots of notes and helps. Most importantly, we offer you customer service to back up your instructor’s guides, as well as other exclusive learning tools and resources.

#2 - Unique Reproducible Learning Tools - WinterPromise is committed to bringing a variety of wonderful learning opportunities and ideas to our families. We've outlined above the many different types of products we offer that are unique and add to the total learning experience of a WinterPromise family. In addition, WinterPromise includes consumable and reproducible pages as part of their guidebook that are simply not found in many other curriculums. Some of these include the Independent Study schedules for students and the fantastic Timeline cards in many guides. When you purchase a guidebook from WinterPromise, you are given unlimited rights to copy these and any other pages in the guidebook, as many times as you'd like, for your immediate family's use. These tools represent a lot of value to your family!

#3 - Personal Customer Service - One service we are proud to offer is the personal coaching and customer service that comes with the purchase of our programs/WP exclusives. Though we would love to help everyone, whether they buy directly from us or second hand, the fact is that we have to prioritize our available staffing. In order for us to be available to our current customers and still offer other vital services to our parents, we need to prioritize where we are putting our time and effort. Our heart is to personally help our customers in and along their journey. We want to be available to you.

However, as WP starts being sold to 2nd, 3rd or sometimes MORE parties, our time would then be spent needing to catch up those folks who have outdated material. When you buy directly from us, that means you are directly supporting our family since this company is our only means by which we live. It also means YOU will have our most current and updated material available. We want to continue to provide the best of help to our current customers as they continue on their journey.

#4 - The Guides are FREE - It may also help to realize that if you buy the complete program from us your Instructor's guide is FREE! That is a $70 savings in most cases, not to mention the "time" you will save. The vast majority of the guides that leave us are given away for free (or half-price for our smaller programs). We hope you’ll understand it just doesn’t make sense to provide additional services beyond our original purchasing families  when there was originally no charge for the majority of the guides.

Clarifying Notes:

The Right to Reproduce
When you purchase a guidebook from WinterPromise, you are given unlimited rights to copy these and any other pages in the guidebook, as many times as you'd like, for your immediate family's use. However, purchasers of the guidebook are not granted the rights to copy these pages for use with students outside their immediate family (such as a co-op
setting), and the rights to copy are only for your family.

Our Commitment to a Good Value
WinterPromise is committed to providing a wonderful product to all of our families. We believe that the best value for any parent is to own the freshest, newest guides we offer that include updated weblinks, our newest ideas and improvements, and great reproducible resources that can be used again and again. With this in mind, we now offer guidebooks free as part of our package pricing. We hope this will allow more parents to own the newest  guides available and enjoy the program to its fullest.

Working with Families
Also, for our parents who have a real financial need, we do try to work with you as much as possible. We offer a payment plan for those who need it, and we do occasionally have materials that are damaged or used that we sell to those with financial need at a discount.

What items are included?

The items that are included are listed below. Any resource produced by WinterPromise that is similar to a book and is not consumable can be resold. An example would be “Children of Many Lands,” published by WinterPromise. You will not find those resources listed below, despite the fact that they are exclusive resources.
