Pack up a shovel, take along a trowel, and grab your dirtiest clothes,
because you are heading out to dig into ancient history. You'll begin by
discovering how to perform an archaeological dig, and practice skills
used by archaeologists. You'll continue by following the history of the
Egyptians as they build temples, wrap mummies and chisel hieroglyphs. Go
along and unravel the mystery of the Rosetta Stone, and visit famous
places in biblical history. Head to Greek monuments, and Roman arenas.
Did you ever wonder when the people in the Bible lived, and what other
things were going on in the world at the time they did things for God?
This year, you’ll find out who was ruling Egypt when Esther became a
queen. You’ll learn about the Roman rulers that influenced the world
when Christ was born. Books like “The Mystery of History” include dozens
of activity suggestions.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. As you read out loud together,
you’ll untangle a mystery in a goldsmith’s shop or run for your life
with an escaping pharaoh who has lost his throne to an adversary. You'll
be by Nehemiah's side as the Israelites work in their homeland, and
travel with Odysseus to the Trojan War and home again.
To add to your study, you'll learn more about the science and geography
of ancient cultures. There are active investigations for your older
student to perform and learn from. Plus, active learning and notebooking
opportunities are laced throughout the program in the books and
resources we’ve chosen.
