Students learn to read more independently and with greater proficiency.

LA 1 begins with students reading easy paragraphs. Students begin with easy readers, reading just 2-4 pages per day, with 1-3 paragraphs on those pages combined. There will be some unfamiliar words that are new, so your student will still need some guidance while reading, at first. By the end of the year, most students will progress to reading short chapters. Throughout the year, students will enjoy a reading games resource that will reinforce their decoding skills and increase reading comprehension and speed. They’ll also compile a word dictionary to which they’ll add their new words, aiding them in spelling skills, and helping them to remember the words they’re decoding. This program is for students who are ready to read short paragraphs with some help. It includes the items listed below, a reader set that coordinates with your first grader’s themed program, and a guidebook that offers creative narration suggestions to coordinate with these themed programs.
